An alleged leaked image of the case for the new iPad Pro shows mysterious cutout on the back.
Today, Slashleaks have leaked images of a case for the redesigned iPad Pro due to come out this year. These are said to be for the 10.5" model - a reference to the 11 inch one. It will have slimmed down bezels and all-screen display with Face ID. The image reveals a pill-shaped cutout on the back above the Lightning port.
The image relates back to a report by Mac Otakara in July, suggesting the Smart Connector would be relocated to the back/bottom from the side where it is currently at.
Before these images leaked, and after the report, Steve Hemmerstoffer apparently leaked a CAD image showing the Smart Connector once again on the back.
However, the leaked image shows a cutout like the CAD picture, but also shows a gap for the connector on the side of the iPad (where it is already), suggesting there could be a button on the back instead. It would not be a wise move by Apple if the Smart Connector was moved to the bottom of the device.
No one is sure how the Smart Connector on the back would work with accessories such as Apple's Smart Keyboard.
But could the cutout be for something else? A vertical-only iPad would be a seriously bad design choice, that should not be made or even thought of. Could it be for a new accessory? Wireless charging or Touch ID? Let us know any thoughts you have!
