The latest version of Apple's iOS was announced in June, and could be announced in a few weeks. Here's everything you might want to know.
Will my device work with iOS 12?
iOS 12 supports the same devices as iOS 11. This includes:
- iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, 7, 8 and X (plus new devices)
- iPod Touch 6
- iPad Mini 2, 3 and 4, iPad 5 and 6, iPad Pro 10.5, 12.9 and 9.7 (2016/2017)

iOS 11 was really buggy, will this update be the same?
Luckily, it won't be! Apple has focused on performance and stability with iOS 12, so if you have an older device supported, you should update. It will make it faster and you'll certainly have a much smoother experience. The current developer and public releases have been extremely smooth, with less bugs.
So Apple focused on bug fixes and stability. No new features? :(
There are many really nice features in iOS 12 actually. One we really like is Group FaceTime, where you can call up to 32 people. You can add stickers, and on the iPhone X, use Animoji too! More great features include Do Not Disturb improvements, Screen Time, where you can see how long you are on your device, and restrict apps and a new augmented-reality Measure app. There's also Stocks on the iPad, revamped iPad gestures and a lot more subtle changes you will notice.
Can I download iOS 12 now?
Yes, you can, but it's in a preview state and hasn't officially been released to the public. Just head over to beta.apple.com and follow the instructions there. However, with only weeks to the official release, there's not really any point, unless you're really eager to try it out!
When will it be released to the public?
We're currently on the sixth beta of iOS 12 (at the time of writing). It's the most stable, and hints there will only be two or three more preview versions before a Gold Master (GM) - final - version is published. We'll have an article on how you can download the update when it comes out, and an in-depth review of features.
Finally, what else is being released? I have a Mac, Apple Watch and TV.
Along with iOS 12 for iPhones, iPads and the iPod, Apple will release macOS Mojave, with new dark mode, screenshot tools and more, watchOS 5 for the Apple Watch and tvOS 12 for the Apple TV. These are also being tested by developers.
