The Fortnite developers have addressed the issues, say a fix is coming soon.
Recently, users on Fortnite for iOS have been plagued by poor performance and graphical issues when playing the game. Posting on Reddit, Epic Games have addressed the issue and confirmed they are working on a fix.
Since the last update to the game (5.40 at the time of writing), lots of players have been reporting lagging and poor graphics. The Windows and Mac version also experienced similar problems, but have since been fixed.
The Epic Games rep noted that Fortnite for iOS is in a "rough state" at the moment, in terms of performance. No specific time was given but they say a fix is in the work, and are working on getting one out as soon as possible.
A patch was released yesterday for iOS, but did not fix the issues.

We know that iOS performance is in a rough state, but we want to let you know that we’ve fixed the issues and are working on getting a patch out as soon as possible. We know you’re eager to get started on those High Stakes Challenges and try out the Getaway LTM. We’ll let you know as soon as we have an update for when the patch will go live.
