Apple has gone back on its promise to not ban the Infowars app.
Following Alex Jone's suspension on Twitter, Apple has decided to ban the Infowars app from the App Store. The company confirmed the decision to BuzzFeed News.
This comes a month after removing Infowars podcasts from Apple Podcasts. Apple didn't specifically comment on why the app was removed, just mentioning its App Store policy.
“Defamatory, discriminatory, or mean-spirited content, including references or commentary about religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, national/ethnic origin, or other targeted groups, particularly if the app is likely to humiliate, intimidate, or place a targeted individual or group in harm’s way.”
Apple confirmed the app would never be allowed back into the App Store, and was permanent.
When removing Infowars podcasts from Apple Podcasts, people were questioning why the app hadn't been removed from the App Store. At the time, Apple said the App Store is home to "all points of view" but it seems Apple has backtracked on that.
The Infowars application allowed users to read articles from the website and listen to programmes from Alex Jones. The app rocketed in downloads soon after the podcasts were removed, too.
