Apple reportedly considered removing the Lightning port from the iPhone X.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple considered removing the Lightning port entirely on the iPhone X, allowing users to only charge their phone wirelessly. Gurman: "During the development of the iPhone X, Apple weighed removing the wired charging system entirely. That wasn't feasible at the time because wireless charging was still slower than traditional methods. Including a wireless charger with new iPhones would also significantly raise the price of the phones." Apple is working on a completely wireless future, so they may remove the Lightning port in the future, like they did with the headphone jack a few years ago.
The 2018 will probably get a USB-C Lightning cable included, and the 2019 are expected to feature a USB-C port instead of a lightning port.
