OnePlus has changed the date of its new flagship launch event to avoid colliding with Apple.
Today the company announced on a forum post and tweet that the OnePlus 6T launch event would be moved from Tuesday 30th October to Monday 29th October.
The reason: to avoid being overshadowed by Apple’s event, also on October 30th. The event will see an all-new iPad Pro and loads more product announcements.
For hours, we talked to our press contacts to gain insight into how Apple’s announcement could affect the launch of the OnePlus 6T... They showed us that if we chose to stick to our original timeline, launching the OnePlus 6T on October 30, we would be overshadowed by Apple.
OnePlus admitted that they looked into different solutions for hours but keeping the event date the same as Apple’s would greatly affect the 6T launch.
When we announced the launch of the OnePlus 6T on October 8, we were convinced our timing would allow us to maximize the amount of people we could reach with our message. That changed when Apple announced they would be hosting their own event on October 30.
Anyone that’s purchased tickets for October 30th, made hotel bookings or flights, and can’t make the altered date, will be offered refunds.
This is a major desicion from OnePlus, and probably works out good for them, too. This will be the first tech company to change their keynote date due to a larger company.
It’s nice to see that OnePlus have been honest and even mentioned Apple in their post. What do you think? Let us know, we’re interested.
